| Traffic... |
[Jun. 21st, 2004|11:35 am] |
A lobbyist, on his way home from work in Washington, D.C., came to a dead halt in traffic and thought to himself, "Wow, this traffic seems worse than usual." He noticed a police officer walking between the lines of stopped cars, so he rolled down his window and asked, "Officer, what's the hold-up?" The officer replied, "The President is depressed, so he stopped his motorcade and is threatening to douse himself with gasoline and set himself on fire. He says no one believes his stories about why we went to war in Iraq, or the worsening deficit and economy, or that his tax cuts will help anyone except his wealthy friends. So we're taking up a collection for him." The lobbyist asks, "How much have you got so far?" The officer replies, "About four gallons, but a lot of folks are still siphoning". -----

| | nostalgic | ] | Four years ago, at about this time of night, I had just finished watching a horrible movie - Notting Hill - with Jason. I actually don't know if the movie was that bad, because I was well into the second day of being consumed by overwhelming convulsions of pain every four minutes that left me gasping for breath...
Four hours later I was feeling no pain and slipping in and out of sleep. After 8 hours on a Pitocin drip I finally had my ~Sunshine~.
Yep, Wednesday is Reeds 4th birthday!
Now I must rest up, in the morning I get to wrestle 15 sugar spastic preschoolers. Actually, I get to put funny hats on them and fill them full of cake then leave them to their "nap-time".
I think as punishment I will end up a childcare worker at the Nestle plant in my next life... |

| | chipper | ] | We had a re-org... my new manager is the coolest! She's a Jamaican native with a Doctorate in Engineering. (It's weird, I'm one of the people who was on the original interview loop when we hired her - so she was "pre-approved" :) )
I also now have 3 minions... I mean direct reports. Boy, are these guys lucky - I'm a total push-over :)
On a less postive note - J's leaving on Saturday, I'm gonna miss him and it's gonna suck... but it's cool that they got suck a great set of shows. Next time we'll have to leave the kid with the grandparents so I can play groupie ;) |

| | Mixed 80's - Tears for Fears | ] | Yippee! I might actually be able to make it to the 6fg show tonight! I must keep my fingers crossed that my Mom's day goes well :)
We dropped Reed off for his second day of school... it's so much harder on Mommy than him...
The fence is working - and most of my roses are in bloom! But the deer have figured out that there are roses in the FRONT yard. I cannot believe that they have balls enough to stand in front of our HUGE windows and munch on my flowers! So, I just have to finish moving them all to the backyard...
Work is weird... they may end up having me lead the same project I was leading months ago before they gave it to someone with more seniority... whatever...
I'm avoiding work - can you tell? |

| | sleepy | ] | What did I do over the weekend? - Found out that alternative music ain't what it used to be :) - Helped move 330 cubic feet of river rock into the ponds in our yard - Discovered that 330 cubic feet of rocks is WAY more than enough to fill our ponds (glad we didn't get the 450 that I wanted!) - Found out what lives in the 12 inches of silt at the bottom of the ponds (*they suck blood and are very much alive...) - Got to wear "hip waders"
(* - you get 5 points if you guessed leeches! WHen I came out of the ponds I had little things all over my legs. I grabbed one and pulled, and it stayed stuck to my leg by one end... that's when I decided to take the longest shower ever!)
Now I need a long nap... zzz.... |

| | worried | ] | Reed took another header into the pond - so today we are buying rocks and filling them in most of the way...
Reed was playing with a rake (imitating how his Dad and I scoop algae off the top) and G-pa was right behind him reading a book. G-pa heard a small noise and called to Reed... then he saw splashing water on the pond. It ws a split second and Reed had already sank...
Needless to say, it ws a stressful night. G-pa is pretty freaked out and the baby slept with us last night :)
So they were off to the quarry to pick rocks big enough not to clog the intake\outtake pipes, smooth enough to not cause owwies and enough to leave only a few inches of water at the surface.
Fun... fun... fun! |

Luckily, it's only a 2 day week... then 2 more days to forget!

| | Harley murping | ] | From http://www.erinyes.org/ : "The Erinyes were birthed out of anger: Gaea's fury at Ouranos' imprisonment of their sons, three monstrous giants with hundreds of hands and fifty heads. Gaea and Ouranos also birthed three Cyclops and a number of Titans; it was to these that Mother Earth appealed for help. Only the titan Cronus was bold enough to take the challenge. He laid in wait for his father and wounded him horribly. From his blood, the Erinyes and the Giants were born.
Three sisters: Tisiphone, Megaera, and Alecto. The Erinyes were the punishers of sinners, called "those who walk in darkness." Weeping tears of blood and hissing with hair of vipers, they would descend like a storm. As long as there was sin in the world, they could not be banished.
The Erinyes have also been referred to as the Eumenides the Kindly ones, the Potniae the Awful Ones, the Maniae the Madnesses, and the Praxidikae the Vengeful ones."
Ummm...ok. What the hell does that mean about me?
I just made terrible noises in the basement... luckily they can be "tuned"... Microphones are not my friends ;) |

I think we're going to the rocking town of Moclips on the coast in a couple days... and maybe Vancouver BC if we can find our passports and the monkey's birth certificate.
I'm still playing in the yard, trying to finish getting ready for the fence. The deer were back last night - and all the buds that were about to bloom are gone :( Grrr....
Someone is being noisy in the basement - it's nice background music :) |
